ADOFEM holds Regular Meeting in May

The Dominican Association of Medical Schools, (ADOFEM), held the regular meeting for the month of May, with headquarters at Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). The deans of the medical schools of the different universities were received by Dr. Mario Uffre, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences; the vice-dean, Zelanda Matos and the director of the School of Medicine, José Peralta Contreras. 

The meeting addressed different topics, such as the new standards for the approval, regulation, and accreditation of Medical Schools in the Dominican Republic. They also discussed the migration of students for training at national and international universities as part of their curricula, as well as the role of leaders in medical education in collaboration with FEPAFEM. The importance of the congresses for medical education was highlighted. Likewise, the formation of ADOFEM technicians in the groups of the National Health Plan PLANDES 2030 was highlighted, and mention was made of the recognition made by the Senate of the Dominican Republic to Universidad central del Este (UCE). 

Dr. Miguel Robiou Krawinkel, president of ADOFEM, presented the agenda and highlighted important points for medical education at national and international level.  Among the attendees was Dr. Marcos Núñez Cuervo, dean of the Faculty of Sciences of Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and president of the Pan-American Federation of Medical School Faculties (FEPAFEM).

Members of the Pan American Health Organization and the Vice-Ministry of Collective Health also participated, who handed ADOFEM posters and promotional material related to smoke-free spaces, in compliance with a previous agreement signed between the Ministry of Public Health, PAHO and ADOFEM. During the activity, ADOFEM recognized Eng. Raúl Díaz, general manager of CTO.

Representatives of the following academic institutions were present: Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, O&Med. Universidad Central del Este (UCE), Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago (UTESA), Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), Universidad Tecnológica del Cibao (UCATECI), Universidad Católica Nordestana (UCNE) and Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) as host.
