The Pan American Federation of Associations of Faculties and Schools of Medicine (FEPAFEM), founded in 1962, in Viña del Mar, Chile, as an international non-governmental organization, with more than 600 affiliated medical schools and representative of the American Continent to the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME); presented its president, Dr. Marcos Núñez Cuervo, who is also dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of UNIBE, in a visit to Mr. Franklin García Fermín. Dr. Núñez Cuervo is the first Dominican president of the FEPAFEM.
Present were Dr. William Duke, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña and co-director for Mesoamerica and the Caribbean of the FEPAFEM, and Miguel Robiou K, dean of Health of the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo and current president of the Dominican Association of Faculties and Schools of Medicine ADOFEM.
Among the topics discussed in the agenda were joint research on medical education, international accreditation and the possibility of managing the holding of an International Congress on medical education in the country, by 2023.
Dr. García Fermín expressed great satisfaction with the topics discussed and promised to support these important initiatives to strengthen medical education, as well as to promote a next technical meeting between MESCyT, FEPAFEM and ADOFEM.
