The 19th Congress of the Dominican Chapter of CONPEHT is held at UNPHU with the participation of 18 local universities.

This year the Pan American Confederation of Hotel, Gastronomy and Tourism Schools focused its annual meeting on the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

On Friday, August 9, the XIX Congress of the Dominican Chapter of the Pan-American Confederation of Hospitality, Gastronomy, and Tourism Schools (CONPEHT) was held successfully, under the motto “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” The event saw the participation of 18 national universities that are part of the organization. 

The event took place in the auditorium at the headquarters of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), the host institution and organizer of this important academic and professional day. Currently, the UNPHU School of Hospitality and Tourism leads the Dominican Chapter of the Pan American Confederation of Hospitality and Tourism Schools.

The congress brought together leading figures from the national and international tourism sectors, including Luis Felipe Aquino, president of the Caribbean Tourism Exchange; Dr. Bolívar Troncoso, director of the National Geographic Institute and honor member of CONPEHT; and Dr. Roberto Lluberes, vice president for the Caribbean of the Confederation.

The event was attended by students, teachers, researchers and tourism professionals, who exchanged knowledge, experiences and proposals focused on the sustainable development of the tourism industry in the region.

The President of the Dominican Chapter of CONPEHT and Director of the UNPHU School of Hospitality and Tourism, Gilberto Soto Jerez, emphasized the significance of these spaces for reflection and education to foster a responsible and sustainable approach to tourism in the country and throughout Latin America.

The day featured keynote lectures, panel discussions, and academic activities focused on enhancing commitment to a more ethical, inclusive, and resilient tourism industry in response to current challenges.

The Pan American Confederation of Hotel, Gastronomy and Tourism Schools (CONPEHT) is a civil association of tourism education entities, established in Mexico in 1991 with the participation of academic institutions from countries across North and South America and Europe.
