The Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto visited the facilities of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, and held his lecture entitled “Primitive Future”, in the Auditorium Horacio Álvarez Saviñón of the University, as part of the Master Chair Architect José Antonio Caro Álvarez, of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts and its School of Architecture and Urbanism.
During the conference, the Ark. Fujimoto presented several of his works made in different parts of the world, some completed and others in process; in which he always highlights the communion with nature and respect for human conditions of habitability.
Among the projects he has carried out is the Hungarian Music House, inaugurated in 2021 and carried out under the auspices of the European Union, which is a complex for listening to concerts, visiting exhibitions, or recording music in the open studios of a building that integrates the nature of a forest within a legendary Budapest Park. Another of the iconic projects, this time in the works, was the Expo 2025 complex in Osaka, Japan, with the slogan «Designing the society of the future for our lives», for which the architect was selected as the design producer for the Expo site, assuming in turn the responsibility of creating the master plan and providing guidance to the designers of the participating countries.
During Fujimoto’s visit, he was recognized as a distinguished visitor to UNPHU, a certificate given to him by the Rector, Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, who received it accompanied by the authorities of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts and the School of Architecture and Urbanism.
The conference was attended by the Ambassador of Japan to the Dominican Republic Masahiro Takagi, academic authorities from different universities, architecture professionals, professors, and students. This was part of the activities of the international event PICUDA (International Practices of Conservation, Urbanism, Design, Art, and Architecture) that is shared with other national universities (PUCMM, UASD, UNIBE, UNAPEC and UCE) held from September 18 to 22 in their different venues.
