The Dominican Association of Medical School Faculties (ADOFEM), held the First International Congress of Medical Education, dedicated to the illustrious academic and dean Ad-Vitam, Dr. Raymundo Jiménez Hernández. On this occasion, the ROWE laboratories in Santo Domingo were the location of the event that was held on March 3 and 4, 2023.
At the opening, were present Dr. Miguel Robiou Kranwinkel, dean of the Health Department of INTEC and president of ADOFEM, as well as the deans and directors of the Faculties of Health Sciences and their Medical Schools, members of ADOFEM; Dr. Juan Francisco Viloria, deputy minister of the MESCyT;. José Hazim Torres, President of the ADRU and Rector of the CEU; Julio Sánchez Mariñez, Rector at INTEC; Dr. Odile Camilo Vincent, Director of UNIBE and Dr. Marcos Núñez Cuervo, president of FEPAFEM, dean of UNIBE, who gave the Master Conference on Medical Education at the global and national levels, and its challenges.
During the opening ceremony Dr. Elizabeth de León paid tribute to Dr. Raymundo Jiménez and a cultural presentation of the UASD folkloric ballet was made.
On Saturday, March 4, the medical education congress was held with an intense day with national and international exhibitors of the highest academic and scientific level. There were presented topics on ethics and bioethics, interprofessional education, national and international accreditations, community health in the curriculum of the Schools of Medicine, mental health in training within the universities, clinical simulation as an indispensable element in the process of training in human resources in health, impact of educational neuroscience, primary health care in medical education, competitions of medical residencies at national and international level, and improvement of the effectiveness of students in their learning process.
The speakers were Dr. Dr. Togarma Rodríguez, Dr. Helena Chapman, Eng. Raul Diaz, Dr. José Rodríguez Freire, Dr. Ángel Pellegrino (President of AFACIMERA), Dr. Luis Abreu, Dr., Matilde Guerrero, and Dr. Jorge Valdez.
There was also a medical simulation panel that was moderated by Dr. Miguel Robiou.
A discussion panel was held, composed of Doctors Pablo Smester, Mario de Jesús Valdez, Wayna Vásquez, Scarlen Pérez, Juan Martínez, Cinthya Rodríguez, Miguel Suazo, Eddy Pérez Then, Maríja Miric, of Two Ocean in Health and the company ADINSTRUMENTS, on the use of active methodologies for laboratories in Health Sciences.
Teachers and students from the eleven universities with faculties of health sciences such as UASD, PUCMM, UNPHU, O&Med, UCE, INTEC, UTESA, UCNE, UNIREMHOS, UNIBE and UCATECI were present.
The next regular meeting of ADOFEM will be on Thursday, March 30, with UNIBE as its headquarters.
The activity was supported by INTEC staff, led by Dr. Priscila Sepúlveda, and Dr. Fernando Santamaría, associate dean, as well as the companies ROWE, Elsevier, CTO, Medinews, Diariosalud, FEPAFEM, and World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), and its president Dr. Ricardo León.
