Dominican Republic will host the 1st International Congress of Education and Respectful Parenting, to combat violence in the home and school

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña will become the venue for the 1st International Congress of Respectful Education and Parenting, to be held on September 23, 2023, at the Horacio Álvarez Saviñón Auditorium, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

This event aims to: “raise awareness and provide training on respectful parenting and education, especially in the face of alarming statistics that show that 64% of Dominican children suffer domestic violence, reaching 73% in the case of early childhood, according to the ENHOGAR-MICS 2019 survey.” This was stated by Eileen Glass, co-creator of Educanza, the project behind the initiative created with Brenda Taveras.

At the conference, EduCrianza will address the issue in collaboration with leading international experts. Its interventions will target parents, caregivers, teachers, psychologists, students, and anyone interested in learning about child development, upbringing, and conscious and respectful education.

Confirmed international guests are: Rafa Guerrero, director of Darwin Psychologists and author of books such as «Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Between pathology and normalcy»; Lety Valero, certified instructor of the Conscious Discipline® program, who will give the talk «How to understand the relationship of brain states and behavior of the child and adolescent»; Machy Guerrero, psychologist and child-parent psychotherapist, will give the talk «Impact of awards, punishments and violence: Love as the master plan!» and Gustavo Mora, special education expert and neurolinguistic programmer, certified in Positive Discipline in families and in the classroom, will give the talk «Respectful Education for All. Creating a culture of inclusion and acceptance in school and at home.»

This event is organized by Eileen Glass (@MadresRealesRD) and Brenda Taveras (@BrendaTaveras), who are leaders in promoting respectful parenting and education in the Dominican Republic. Both will be giving two talks to provide practical tools both at home and in the classroom.

The congress is supported by UNPHU, through the Bachelor of Special Education and its School of Education.
