SANTO DOMINGO, D.N., November 2025
Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) welcomed Dr. Kathleen Martínez, a leading Dominican archaeologist of international renown and a graduate of this University, who delivered her lecture “The Last Secret of Cleopatra”
The activity carried out in conjunction with the Genius Academy, the Dominican Institute of Archeology (DIAR), and UNPHU provided an opportunity to learn more about the historical exploration that the renowned archeologist has been conducting.
“By sharing her experience and discoveries, Dr. Martínez not only brought the mystery of Cleopatra to those present but also offered the inspiring example of a Dominican woman who has demonstrated the power of discipline and determination to achieve goals that seemed impossible,” said architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, Rector of UNPHU.
Dr. Martinez, a law graduate from UNPHU who later specialized in archaeology, has devoted more than two decades to one of the most exciting searches in ancient history: the tomb of Queen Cleopatra. Her work at the temple of Taposiris Magna in Alexandria, Egypt, has attracted global attention, particularly following recent discoveries of underground tunnels, sculptures, coins, and ritual structures that may be linked to the final resting place of the last Pharaoh.
