Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, through its Vice-Rector Research, Linkage and Internationalization Projects and its Research Directorate in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), conducted the panel “New Careers for Scientific Development and Technological Innovation”.
The main challenges to the higher education system at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels were addressed. Similarly, the global reach, as well as the impact of the biological revolution that took place at the end of the 20th century, and the emergence of the digital revolution 4.0, which includes operating systems and programming languages, are dramatically changing the way we approach problem solving. This promoting new fields of knowledge, where Artificial Intelligence is playing a leading role.
As the rector of UNPHU said: “This is an invaluable opportunity to explore the current and future landscape of the careers that will drive the scientific and technological progress of our world. A world increasingly driven by science and technology, must be attentive and open to new opportunities that arise, such as this one, in which we will talk about emerging careers,” said UNPHU rectos Arq. Miguel Fiallo Calderón.
The purpose of the activity was to seek answers that help increase the quality of teaching and learning in higher education, and to determine whether Dominican institutions are prepared to diversify the academic offer in the digital era that surrounds them.
The panel was attended by experts in the area such as: Julio Moisés Álvarez, physicist; Alberto J Núñez Selles, advisor, and researcher at UNPHU; Nelphy De la Cruz Felix De Pérez, researcher, and associate professor at UASD; Galileo Violini, former professor of mathematical methods in physics at the Universities of Rome; Germercy Paredes, PhD. researcher in Micro-nanomaterials at PUCMM and Kety M. Jiménez, PhD. professor at UASD. The moderator was Dr. Jackson Sánchez, director of the Physics Department of UNPHU.
