Rectors and deans of universities of the Schools of Medicine, part of the University Net for the Advance of Dominican Education (RUNED), held a meeting to analyze the status and preparation of the response to the Department of Superior Education Science and Technology (MESCyT), for the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), in comparing standards. At the meeting, they addressed the proposal of deans about the methodology to update the rules for approval, regulation, and accreditation of the Schools of Medicine in the Dominican Republic.
They also analyzed the situation of the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) and the relevance to select an alternate agency. In addition, they outlined the situation of teaching hospitals and the requirements for the accreditation, defining an action plan.
They also discuss the need to request MESCyt to clarify the national organism with authority to accredit Medicine programs, if the head is the National Board of Superior Education, Science, and technology (CONESCyT) or the CONAEM.
The event was held in the Board Hall of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU), on Friday, August 20.
