UNPHU and REFIDOMSA hold first workshop on Oil and Gas Geology in the Dominican Republic

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, its Vice-Rector Research, Linkage and Internationalization Projects and the Research and Development Unit for the Exploration and Exploitation of Oil and Gas of the Dominican Oil Refinery (REFIDOMSA), conducted the first workshop on “Oil and Gas Geology in the Dominican Republic”, by Dr. Mario García González, senior lecturer and head of the Petroleum Geochemistry Laboratory of the Industrial University of Santander, Colombia.

The activity aimed to exchange experiences on laboratory techniques used for the study of oil and gas resources at the sedimentary basin level, geological information infrastructure, best practices for oil and gas sample collection, conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon deposits, strategies, and opportunities in the short and medium term to enrich research, and development in oil and gas issues in the Dominican Republic.  

The workshop was conducted as part of the research project “Reconstruction of the thermal history of the sedimentary basins of the Dominican Republic. Degree of thermal maturation of hydrocarbon-producing formations, evaluation and quantification of potential oil and gas reserves”, executed by the Research Direction of UNPHU, with the Research and Development Unit for the Exploration and Exploitation of Oil and Gas – REFIDOMSA and the Industrial University of Santander, Colombia.

The event, aimed at the entire UNPHU community, academia authorities, research centers and government agencies, was held in the Conference Room of Building 3 of the university.
