UNPHU holds the Master chair Professor of Justice Dr. Nicolás E. Pichardo

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), and its Faculty of Health Sciences, held the Master’s Chair Dr. Nicolás E. Pichardo in charge of Dr. Raúl Martínez Fernández, Neurologist of the Comprehensive Center of Neurosciences AC HM CINAC, Spain, with the theme «New Diagnoses and Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease».

The speaker Dr. Raúl Martínez Fernández, spoke about the clinical diagnosis, treatments and advances in recent years, where he indicated that with these treatments and investigations what they seek is that patients with this type of disease can have quality of life and carry out their daily activities in a normal way. Among some of the treatments mentioned, dopaminergic function in the brain with levodopa plus carbidopa or other drugs was highlighted, as well as the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) to treat problems such as tremors and stiffness and High Intensity Focused Ultrasound or HiFU, which has been established as a proven treatment for many motor disorders.

During the event, the welcome words and motif of the chair were given by Dr. William Duke, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. 

At the event, the following doctors were recognized as distinguished graduates of the School of Medicine: Rosalda O. Damiano Franco, Dr. Alfonso F. Brossa Franco, Dr. Federico H. Mejía Biaggi. 

The certificates were given by the rector Arq. Miguel Fiallo Calderón, joined by Licda. Laura Veloz Espejo, Director of the Department of Institutional Experience and Graduate Management UNPHU.

The Biography of Dr. Nicolás Esteban Pichardo was presented by Dr. Herbert Stern Díaz, professor and member of the UNPHU Editorial Board, as well as the biography of Dr. Raúl Martínez Fernández, presented by Dr. Fernando Contreras Peña, professor and member of the Dominican University Foundation Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Inc. (FUDPHU). 

The exhibitor Dr. Raúl Martínez Fernández, was recognized as a distinguished visitor, the certificate was delivered by Dr. Luis Rojas Grullón, president of the Society of Medical Graduates (SEM-UNPHU), teacher and member of the Dominican University Foundation Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Inc. (FUDPHU).

The table of honor was composed of him , Arq. Miguel Fiallo Calderón, rector of the university; Dr. Luis Rojas Grullón, president of the Society of Medical Graduates (SEM-UNPHU), professor and member of the Dominican University Foundation Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Inc. The event was aimed at university authorities, teachers and students of the Faculty of Health Sciences. It took place on Tuesday, May 17 at the Horacio Álvarez Auditorium at 6:00 pm.
