Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) recognized 47 students for their academic merits during the III Edition of the 2025 Recognition of Student Merit. The event organized by the Student Welfare Deanship brought together academic authorities, teachers, administrative staff, and family members of the winners.
Dr. Patricia Matos, academic vice-chancellor, offered words of congratulations and motivation, highlighting the effort, excellence and value of comprehensive training. University officials, including deans and principals, presented awards during the ceremony.
The Dean of Student Welfare said the award-winning students are the ones who “breathe life into, inspire, propel, and project to the world the true essence of our academy.”
In this edition, the recognized students excelled in the four pillars of the program: Academic Excellence, Art and Culture, Sports, and Social Commitment.
In the area of Academic Excellence, students with the highest scores from each faculty were honored. The members of the honor roll received honorable mentions, and the student with the top grade earned a special medal.
In the Art and Culture category, Luis Tonos was recognized as the music student who stood out for his artistic career and performance, showcasing the musical talent of the student community.
In sports, medical student Sergio Laguía Gómez, goalkeeper for the university’s soccer team, was recognized for his discipline, dedication, and encouragement of team spirit.
Among the awards for Social Commitment, there were outstanding student groups that promote equity and community welfare: the Dentistry committee, the Medical student board, the Industrial Engineering committee, and the Psychology board received recognition for their social impact.
The event ended with a musical segment featuring DJ Caleb, a student at the School of Music, who brought a lively and festive finish to the auditorium, celebrating the talent and spirit of the honorees.
