Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) and its School of Psychology participated in the commemoration of the International Day of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, organized by the Vice-Ministry of Collective Health of the of Public Health Department.
The topic submitted to the scientific community was the psychosocial impact of fetal alcohol syndrome: from pregnancy to the consequences on social cognition. Different aspects were identified on the psychosocial impact that Fetal Alcohol Syndrome has on economic, social, biological, educational, family, quality of life, and feasibility to obtain employs, among others.
During the exhibition it was recommended to continue defining public, social and health policies to prevent consumption during pregnancy; as well as to create prevention campaigns from early stages and that these can be provided to primary care centers to accompany the processes of pregnancy of mothers. Also empower parents to be caregivers of mothers and the process of pregnancy, to favor their healthy physical condition.
The university was represented by the director of the School of Psychology, Ivonne Guzmán and the research teacher Dulvis Mejía.
UNPHU, through its research team, seeks to generate effective proposals to be developed by the competent bodies.
