UNPHU representatives stand out at the XXIII Pan American Conference on Medical Education (COPAEM 2025)

Dr. Eduardo García, associate dean of the UNPHU School of Health Sciences, was recognized for his contribution to medical education.

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) actively participated in the XXIII Pan American Conference on Medical Education (COPAEM 2025), held from July 23 to 26, 2025, in Quito, Ecuador. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Dominican Association of Faculties and Medical Schools (ADOFEM), representing nearly 400 member schools of FEPAFEM.

During the event, Dr. Eduardo García received the Francisco Hernández Order, the highest honor given by the Pan American Federation of Faculties and Schools of Medicine (FEPAFEM) to individuals recognized for their contributions to medical education for over 40 years as a teacher, dean, and director at the UNPHU School of Health Sciences.

The UNPHU delegation was composed of Dr. William Duke, Dean of the Faculty of Health Science and coordinator of FEPAFEM Central America and the Caribbean, Dr. Eduardo García, Associate Dean and Dr. Claudia Scharf, Director of the UNPHU School of Medicine.

During the congress, the workshop “RED Cap and its applicability in evidence-based medicine and medical education,” presented by UNPHU graduate and current Dean of O& Med Research, Dr. Eddy Pérez‑Then, Dr. Maríja Miric, and Dr. Massiel Méndez Jorge, was held in the Moritz B salon of the Swissôtel Quito. In this session, the advantages of RED Cap as a key tool in clinical research and medical education were discussed.

The event was led by Dr. Marcos Núñez Cuervo, president of FEPAFEM, along with its executive committee, which reaffirmed the academic and collaborative focus of the regional meeting.

The involvement of UNPHU and ADOFEM in COPAEM 2025 underscores their commitment to academic excellence, technological innovation, and strengthening professional networks in regional medical training.
