Medical student Karla Davielys Pérez, from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), participated in the first edition of the Annual Reading Contest for University Students, where she won third place.
The contest was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), and Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library (BNPHU), dedicated to the Dominican lawyer, architect, historian, lecturer, poet and writer, Hugo Tolentino Dipp (1930-2019).
In this edition, 950 Dominican students participated; the participants who qualified in the first round were given four works by Dominican authors, which were provided by the MESCYT and the BNPHU, to be read in a stipulated time of three months.
The three winning students received a cash prize, a scholarship to master’s degree and a certificate of participation.
The awards ceremony took place on June 14, 2023, in the Aida Cartagena Portalatín hall of the BNPHU.
This pilot version of the competition is inserted in the policies of strengthening the quality of higher education and seeks to encourage interest in reading in the university educational community.
