It is a collaborative effort with the Alzheimer’s Association aimed at preventing cognitive decline in older adults.
Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña celebrated the graduation of the final group from the Latam Fingers Project, a Latin American initiative sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association that aims to prevent cognitive decline in older adults.
The goal of the program is to develop in participants skills that show how to modify the factors that actively contribute to preventing cognitive impairment. Some of these factors include physical exercise, reading, mental exercise, good nutrition, and healthy daily habits like proper rest. This is the first time that a prevention project of this size for older adults has been carried out in our country.
The event emphasized the importance of the Latam Fingers Project in the fight against Alzheimer’s, recognizing the effort and dedication of the participants. The graduates received certificates that reflect their commitment and contribution to advancing knowledge about this neurodegenerative disease. The project members highlighted the dedication and effort of the participants throughout the program, emphasizing the positive impact that this training will have on their lives and communities.
While Dr. Daisy Acosta emphasized the importance of graduates being able to continue activities that support their physical and cognitive development. “It is a priority to keep the knowledge acquired in the project active.”
The graduation ceremony was attended by Mr. Pedro Peguero, leader of Physical Intervention; Ms. Jennifer Arias; and Lcda. Guillermina Rodríguez, coordinator of Latam Fingers-RD, as well as representatives of the Alzheimer’s Association, and family and friends of the graduates.
