Specialized Course in Management for Regional Directors

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, through its School of Education and in coordination with the Department of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) and the University of Barcelona, started the course for directors of 18 regional and 122 public education districts in the country. The participants were Francisco Pérez Lozano, Academic Director of the Institute of Continuing Education of the University of Barcelona, and Serafín Antúnez, Director of the course. The training was sponsored by the National Teacher Training Institute (Inafocam).

Key issues for pedagogical management were addressed, focusing on best practices and effective strategies to improve student learning. Work will also be undertaken to identify the specific challenges faced by each of the regional organizations.

Gelson Navarro, head of INAFOCAM’s Department of Continuing Education, who spoke on behalf of Executive Director Francisco Ramírez, said the training represents a valuable opportunity for teachers to strengthen their skills regarding educational management and «contribute to the development of more effective policies to favor students throughout the country.» The educator reiterated the commitment of Inafocam, as the institution responsible for coordinating and sponsoring the training and updating of teachers, emphasizing that only through training changes in education are generated.

The activity was attended by the academic vice-chancellor, Patricia Matos; the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Geisha Carpio; the director of the School of Education, José Ramón Suriel, and the academic coordinator of the program from UNPHU, Laura Pérez.

The event was held on April 26, 2023, at the Max Henríquez Ureña Hall of the university.
