UNPHU and UNEV sign inter-institutional collaboration agreement to strengthen research project in the Haina-Duey basins

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) and Universidad Nacional Evangelica (UNEV) signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen a research project that is being developed in the basin of Haina-Duey, a drinking water supply point in the city of Santo Domingo. 

The two institutions have as their common goal the field of research, development, and innovation; and the dissemination of knowledge and technologies that they consider desirable, and with a multiplier effect. In the interests of the exploitation and conservation of the Dominican Republic’s natural resources, they consider necessary to create and strengthen strategic alliances to ensure the implementation of research and development projects and economic and social studies.

To implement this collaboration, UNEV will provide UNPHU with its own land, where the Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Appropriate Technology (CASTA) operates, for the establishment of a weather station, which will collect information on the weather and feed the climate database in the Dominican Republic.  

The signing of the agreement took place in the university’s Rectory on February 28, 2023, between Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, Rector at UNPHU, and Dr. Juan B. Guerrero Ávila, rector at UNEV.

About the Research Project

It is a study on the influence of vegetation cover and edaphoclimatic factors on hydraulic conductivity in the micro-basin Haina-Duey, as a water supplier to greater Santo Domingo, using the analog forestry system, as an adaptation mechanism to climate change based on ecosystems, project sponsored by FONDOCYT.
