Veterinary students at UNPHU perform an internship at Hacienda La Marquesa in Colombia

Students of the career of veterinary of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU), are performing internships at the breeding place La Marquesa, located in Colombia. 

The internship is contemplated for a term of six months at the breeder, where the students will learn all about reproductive techniques, as well as the handling of pregnant mares, neonatology, and gynecology of horses.

La Marquesa Breeding is an equine reproduction center, owner of the stallion Dulce Sueño, champion horse of several international and world competitions, the flagship of the breeder. The crossbreed of the stallion is estimated of US$3,000.00

At the center are developing the most advanced existent reproduction techniques as: collection, handling and conservation of equine semen, synchronization of reproduction time, artificial insemination, eggcell collection, in vitro fertilization, and others. 

The agreement with the breeding place was signed for a term of three years, two internships per year and four students per internship. At the moment seven UNPHU students are attending to the internship

About the breeding place La Marquesa 

La Marquesa is a farm of more than 100 years of family legacy, devoted to the breeding, training and competition of the Colombian stallion. Its four modalities are “Paso fino”, “Trocha”, “Trocha and gallop”, and “Trot and Gallop”.
