Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), through the Faculty of Health Sciences, held the technical discussion panel international World Day against Hemophilia, in which different problems and solutions were raised.
During the event, specialists, based on statistics, raised the importance of having a timely diagnosis, which implies more chances of having a longer life expectancy. They also called on doctors to take this disease into account when making a diagnosis of heavy blood loss. They addressed the issue of accessibility to high-cost medicines for the treatment of persons suffering from this disease.
The webinar was attended by: Dr. Krismely Moya of Robert Read Cabral Pediatric Hospital, also representing the Hemophiliac Support Foundation; Dr. Angélica A. Floren, president of the Dominican Mothers and Infants Foundation of the University of Miami; Dr. Fernando Corrales Miller, School of Medicine, University of Miami; Fendi Valdez, President of FAHEM «Testimony of Patients with Hemophilia» and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences UNPHU, Dr. William Duke. One patient with the disease also participated.
The meeting aimed to empower civil society around the prevention and control of the disease, which affects from the first years of life.
