UNPHU and seven universities sign agreement for research and management of Sargassum in Rep. Sun

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), together with the UASD, PUCMM, APEC, INTEC, UNIBE, UFHEC and the ISA University (UNISA), signed a specific inter-institutional collaboration agreement for the creation and implementation of a network of universities for research, management and treatment of sargassum in the Dominican Republic, through the development of projects that are subsidized by public and private sector institutions.

The presence of sargassum on Dominican beaches not only affects the environment but also one of the main economic activities of the country: tourism. 

This agreement seeks to provide answers to this problem, as it will allow the development and strengthening of research, as well as the search for solutions based on scientific methods that tax the birth of new technologies.

On behalf of the universities were signed by the rectors Editrudis Beltrán of the UASD; Julio Sánchez Mariñez of INTEC; Odile Camilo Vincent of UNIBE; Alberto Ramírez Cabral of UFHEC; Ángel María Castillo Brito, rector of the ISA university, as well as Juan Gabriel Faxas, vice rector of Research and Innovation of the PUCMM; and Josefina Pepín, vice rector of research, linking and internationalization of UNPHU.
