UNPHU receives Minister of Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquez Martínez and university rectors

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) received in its facilities the Minister of Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquez Martínez; the director of the National Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, and rectors of different universities in the country.

During the meeting, the Minister of the Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquez Martínez, assured the rectors of the universities that they will be establishing police corridors and illuminating the surroundings of the different institutions of higher education and that they will be focusing on the safety of the educational communities and of all citizens.

At the meeting, the director of the National Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, stated that the country had not achieved so much in articulating the fight against crime. “Especially with regard to the dignity of those who work in those actions,” he said, and assured that they will work tirelessly to ensure protection for the entire population.

During the meeting, the rector at UNPHU, Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, suggested monitoring or surveillance by the different educational centers, in order to provide confidence to the student communities of the country.

The rectors expressed their concern about the strengthening of security in the areas where young people transit and expressed the great importance of targeting police units that are sent to patrol university areas. 

In addition, the rectors decided by consensus to immediately identify the lack of luminaires for the Southern Energy Distribution Company (Edesur) to place. 

The meeting was held at the UNPHU rectory. Attended at the meeting Editrudis Beltrán, rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD); Franklyn Holguín Haché, of UNAPEC; Odile Camilo Vincent, rector of the Ibero-American University (UNIBE); Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector of INTEC and Julio Ferreiras, vice-rector academic of the PUCMM were present.
