Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) successfully concluded the third edition of the Dominican University Innovation Fair 2025, at its campuses in Santo Domingo and La Vega. Under the coordination of the Vice-Rectorate for Research, Linkage and Internationalization and UNPHU Emprende, the event integrated science, technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation, aligned with the strategic axes of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), the Innovation Cabinet, and the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OGTIC).
Throughout the day, over 1,300 students and collaborators participated in training activities like talks, workshops, conferences, panels, and webinars. The fair reaffirmed UNPHU’s commitment to transformative higher education, connected to the national context and aimed at the global stage, fostering talent, creativity, and critical thinking within its university community.
In Santo Domingo, discussions covered topics like spotting innovation opportunities, ethical AI use in research, managing intellectual property, agri-food and forestry innovations, and teaching methods such as gamification in the hotel industry. Also, entrepreneurial projects centered on the orange economy and health were showcased, including the conclusion of the UNPHU 2025 Entrepreneur Bootcamp, where seven innovators presented solutions developed during intensive training.
Science also played a significant role with presentations on pediatric dentistry and advances in pharmacy, such as controlled-release tablets produced through 3D bioprinting. Similarly, the participants visited the university’s research labs and explored the opportunities they offer for developing scientific projects.
While at the UNPHU La Vega site, the fair started with a demonstration of an ergonomic keyboard designed to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. The sustainable community entrepreneurship “Areíto al Camú,» which combined music, culture, and sustainability, was also featured. Activities included presentations on artificial intelligence and social development, environmental robotics, and sustainability.
For this fair, the university was supported by partner institutions such as MESCyT, ONAPI, Red CATI, MINERD, Nestlé, CIFMEC, and Diario Salud.
